Imam al-Husayn (a)

The third Imam · grandson of the Prophet (s)

He gave everything he possessed so that truth would outlast falsehood.

Imam al-Husayn (a) was the son of Imam ‘Ali (a) and Fatima al-Zahra (a), and the grandson of the Prophet Muhammad (s), who loved him dearly and named him a leader of the youth of Paradise.

As the third of the twelve Imams, he carried the responsibility of safeguarding the religion of his grandfather. At fifty-seven, faced with Yazid's demand for allegiance, he refused to legitimise tyranny and set out on the path that would end at Karbala.

His stand became the enduring measure of conscience in Islamic history: that it is more honourable to die for the truth than to live in submission to wrong.
