One night for prayer

As the army closed in on the ninth, the Imam asked for one night's delay — and was granted it. He spent it as he had spent his life: in prayer.

He gathered his companions and told them, plainly, that the enemy wanted no one but him; he lifted every obligation and urged them to slip away under cover of darkness. Their answer was unanimous: by Allah, never — we will live with you and die with you.
