عبيد الله بن زياد
Army of Yazid
‘Ubaydullah ibn Ziyad
Governor of Kufa
He ruled the city by terror.
‘Ubaydullah ibn Ziyad was installed by Yazid as governor of Kufa to crush support for the Imam, and he ruled the city through fear.
He executed Muslim ibn ‘Aqil and Hani ibn ‘Urwah, then directed the army at Karbala by written command — including the orders to cut the camp off from the Euphrates and to give no quarter. After the battle he received the captives in his court, where Sayyida Zaynab (a) confronted him to his face.
