He pressed for battle when peace was within reach.

Shimr ibn Dhi'l-Jawshan was among the commanders at Karbala and the fiercest advocate for battle when terms of settlement were close at hand.

He led the final assault on the Imam's position, and it was Shimr who severed the head of Imam al-Husayn (a). His name has remained in infamy in the memory of the tragedy ever since.
